Re-Focussing the PMO – How to transition to a Future-Proofed PMO Capability
Today’s projects are increasingly facing challenges with missed project deadlines, cost overruns, and failed delivery of business value. This has an impact on overall organisational performance and requires building capabilities to adapt continuously to business uncertainties and the changing organisational needs.
To thrive in a world of increasing uncertainty, the project management function in organizations requires a stronger PMO function that needs to shift from a traditional project support function to an effective centre of excellence for all projects. But an effective enterprise PMO requires not only the rather reactive alignment of projects to organisational strategies but rather a forward-looking capability to act early on a broader range of factors that impact project performance – such as technology trends and advancements – to ensure the successful and value-based delivery from projects. Consequently, the PMO needs to transition to a function that effectively contributes to the organization strategy with actionable recommendations based on its centrally collected insights regarding project performance factors.
The presentation will outline critical skills and processes that a modern PMO needs to adopt, to strengthen its role as an important contributor to project performance and organisational success.
