Enabling the untapped capabilities of data for project delivery confidence and success

In an increasingly digitized world, businesses are becoming more and more complex, demanding high agility and speed when it comes to projects delivering value and change. However, the exponentially growing amount of data and information causes challenges for projects to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for change. The result is an alarming trend towards more and more challenged and failing projects. It needs to be realized that data is de facto the new currency for organizations that want to stay competitive in their market.

However, this is equally important for the project management practice, which has been left behind for years when it comes to innovation and alignment with digital initiatives.  To address the existing challenges to deliver projects in today’s VUCA world, the current model based on project management skills and experience is not sufficient anymore and therefore needs to be augmented with enhanced capabilities from data, analytics, and disruptive technologies, towards the more effective and successful delivery of projects.  While technology and data will significantly change the way projects are planned, estimated, forecasted, and delivered, and hence play a pivotal role in a data-informed project management practice, the key to a successful transition are the new skills and behaviors that project professionals need to adopt to enable data to effectively contribute to the successful outcome of projects. 

In this presentation, Marcus Glowasz will outline the steps to be taken to improve project management performance with a data-informed delivery approach, including the often unknown and harder-to-quantify keys to successfully transition to a new project delivery model that will reduce project uncertainty and provide a re-established project delivery confidence.
